Taking that old adage, what would you do if you only had one more day to live, I started thinking about my art and what a wild journey it's been these past few years. Granted there have been dips  and peaks and thrills and lows, but always it has been forward, thanks to you, my flower friends and my collectors. What would you say to your fellow artists, if you only had one thing left to share? I know what my message would be. I've seen students in my classes struggle with reducing color, with minimizing their own brilliance in order to fit into some reconfigured structured box outlined by the preconceived notions of super realism, or verism, as the only standard. I would say, if there was just one message left for me to share with you, break away from the pack. Live. Most of all,

...take your color as far as you want it to go.

Stop painting from a place of fear and conformism. Paint from a place of joy. Paint like there is no tomorrow. Pile the color ridiculously high on your palette and scoop unfathomable quantities onto your brush. Place color with wild abandon onto the blank canvas. You get to carve out your own voice, you get to create your own style. Enjoy the color, just as nature uses it, in pure, eye catching power. And yes indeed, this is a metaphor for life.
