Barefoot Garden Geraniums by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Detail: Barefoot Garden Geraniums
by Nancy Medina
Oil on Linen Panel

Barefoot Garden Geraniums is a detail from the larger work finished yesterday evening. I love painting geraniums in oils, they have an ordinary beauty that transcends so many other flowers, with their simple, brilliant color.

It's been a regular flower painting factor since Friday, since the pugs and I are iced in and house-bound. Thanks to a large supply of flavored coffees and creamers, Christmas cookies, and paints up to my elbows, the production line has been going non-stop! Eight paintings are drying right now. When friends ask why I paint every day? I have a condition that requires medication. Or perhaps sedation. Cookies and holiday movies are always a great way to relax after a hard day at the easel, cranking out those flowers, one after another, petals and leaves and stems flying hither and yon. Tomorrow the great ice thaw of North Texas is scheduled to begin, so I suspect her majesty the studio director will be expecting some toy throwing time in the yard. We have a lot to catch up on!

Thanks Sherry! My geraniums were still blooming up until the Big Ice Storm hit four days ago.... This was a sad adieu...
