Blogger Construction Zone!

Please pardon our dust while I am in the midst of revamping and refreshing my art bloggy! It will all be done soon, and I hope to have a fresh, clean look that will be a bit less clunky and cluttered. In the meantime, I'm sharing a post from a while back and hope you enjoy this step by step painting of a Yorkie angel girl!

A new Yorkie pet portrait commission is drying in Flower Mound Studio this week, and the pugs have not yet detected the presence of a canine interloper in their favorite napping room. This little girl is a surprise gift for her mom in Santa Fe, New Mexico, so she will be flying home there soon. I've shared the step by step process with you below - I always get the eyes and nose in first, and work out from there, it seems to be easier that way. Portraits on double oil primed linen board give you the best results, the surface is smooth enough to allow for delicate colors and shapes, but has a bit of tooth for the personality of the fur, too. This was really fun to paint, there is something very rewarding about seeing a cute little face come to life before you.

Thanks so much Miss Sherry!

Laura, I bet she keeps you in line, just like my AnnieBee does! What on earth would we do without our little supervisors....?
