SOLD ~ Red Roses Step by Step by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

A Million Kisses ~ Red Roses
by Nancy Medina

Oil on Archival Panel

A Million Kisses Red Roses is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, as the days move closer to the the time of year I love most. I wanted to go a bit overboard with the color on this painting, break a few rules, and splash some paint around just for the sheer joy of it. I paint every day not just because it's good for my work, but because life is short and you should spend it doing something you feel absolutely passionate about.

Sometimes I get distracted and forget the little things that make me happy, and I become convinced the weight of the world is on my shoulders, and oh my gosh how can I keep up this pace, two jobs, so much to do, and AnnieBee is always there with her toy du jour, waiting patiently with her one simple wish. Throw the toy! Funny thing is, all I have to do is throw the toy. When AnnieBee's happy, I'm happy too. It's just that easy.

Step one - the underpainting begins!

Step 2 - alizarin crimson rose base

Step 3 - laying in the opaques

Step 4, pumping up the color!

Step 5 - almost done!

My little snow girl AnnieBee, right after spitting out
her snow-crusted ice cold ball! circa Christmas 2011.

Nancy, you know how to enjoy life. That makes me happy. I would assume your title came from the millions of kisses you get from your Puglets? It is a beautiful painting full of love that shines through each brush stroke.

Nancy, you make it look so easy and it isn't! Love your roses. And I love your little girl with snow on her muzzle! The comment by Crimson Leaves called your dogs "Puglets" and I loved that term! They sure provide you with lots of joy!

Egretta thank you, yes, the puglets keep me laughing all the time. I'm not sure how I would get a thing done without them!
