Poppy Painting in Red and White and the Stars at Night by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Poppies in Red and White
by Nancy Medina
Oil on Cradled Panel

Poppies in Red and White is the newest small work, another painting completed in my Mom's kitchen amidst the laughter, noise, cooking, favorite taped programs, barking, and general hubbub of my family's life. I love spending time with Mom on the farm, it is such an escape from the city. Her home is on 15 acres, mostly filled with ancient oak trees, and stepping into her back yard after dark is a dream come true for anyone who loves to see stars.

I remember when my sisters and I were little looking up and being so proud I could identify the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper. My astronomy skills have progressed absolutely no further, as I could still only locate those two constellations yesterday evening. And it's true, the stars really are big and bright just a bit due east of the Heart of Texas...!

I just love the light green paint strokes of the leaves and the bits of blue accents is so inspired. Combines for yet another beautiful piece! The big and little dippers are the two I could always find too. Now? I think I have found Orion's belt. That is it for me as well.
