Room to Grow Daisies and Sunflowers is a fun little painting completed in the studio with the help of a few of my friends on Facebook today. I love posting the beginning of the painting on my Facebook fan page, and asking folks what kind of flower they think I should paint. Sometimes I get some really great ideas that never even occurred to me! I always post the end result so join me there sometime to see a painting from start to finish!

This new sunflower and daisy painting makes me think of growing up with my three sisters, and how even though there were four of us, I never felt like we were crowded. When dad built our house, he asked us if we would rather have two bedrooms, or one big bedroom for all of us to share. We of course voted for one big bedroom, envisioning slumber parties that never ended. I remember so many nights falling asleep with my beloved Chatty Cathy and Thumbelina dolls, sleeping next to my sister Julie who had Bun Bun (her bunny), and Drowsy. We created many scenarios and adventures for our dolls, and had lengthy conversations with them that these days would probably cause parents to sign us up for hours of therapy. But we used our imaginations. I remember the year I went away to College, I was the first to leave the nest, and how odd it felt not to be with my sisters. Exciting, in some ways, but very sad, knowing that sharing our daily lives and every new experience or sorrow was no longer going to happen. It's been over 30 years since that time, and I am so grateful to still be close to my sisters, even if we don't see each other every day. I can't imagine what life would be like without them.

The daisies take a bow!

Nancy, this is another beauty. I love when you paint white flowers and how you pick up shadows on the petals. I also adore your stories and memories.
