Poppy Season is a new small study drying in Flower Mound Studio, while I'm moving full speed ahead on a new three foot square poppy commission for a very nice family in North Texas. Sometimes it's tough to get an idea of the scale of a large painting, when you're gazing at a two inch image of the painting on a computer screen. My number one human assistant helped me capture a photo of the large poppy painting this afternoon. You can see his tennis shoes peeping out from under the canvas below. I'm very fortunate to have my helper, most especially because he cooked pot roast for dinner right after helping me with important photography duties.
Poppy Season, the small study, was based on the beautiful dinner plate sized flowers that grow all around my friend's cabin near Salt Lake City, Utah. Every time I paint these, I am reminded of a great girl's weekend with home cooking, hiking, and of course, meeting the bear and seeing a couple of moose, but that's another story...!
