Here is a re-post of a previous blog listing, back when it was cool outside and the irises were still blooming. I'm at my show in Fredericksburg, Texas, this weekend, but wanted to share some flowers with you while I am away - Enjoy!

It's been windy in North Texas lately, so my flower photos have been a bit of a challenge. My newest sunflower painting reflects a bit of the breezy weather outside. That weather outside didn't stop me from making the annual pilgrimage today to Argyle Acres Iris Gardens! This weekend was their sneak peek, and even better, the blooming season has started early because of rains a few weeks ago. With our sharpened number 2 pencil and order sheet in hand, we found about five new lovelies to add to our garden out back next year. The rhizomes will arrive in an airy, light box later, just in time for our new iris-hydrangea beds to be settled in for the fall.

This year I got to meet Sparkles and Annie, Joe and Donna Spears' two char peis, and I got a few kisses from Sparkles, who specializes in sharing those with friends. Joe and Donna say they are ready to sell the business and retire so they can take an Alaskan cruise, so if you know anyone who would like to run a successful, award winning iris business be sure to drop them a line on their web site! They're even offering a year of free consulting to start things off well.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the gardens today, which are just a few miles up the road from our house. I'll share more over the next few weeks so don't be a stranger!

Donna, me, Joe and their helper, Sparkle.
Joe and Donna Spears are the
owners of Argyle Acres, though
Sparkle and Annie are in
charge of all indoor activities.

I love their meandering drive!

The wind was whispering around
these snow white blooms.

The little bugs seemed to love the
orange irises best of all.

Donna said the iris competitions always display
the flowers in green glass. Beautiful!

Even though it is early in the bloom season,
a few irises were out in full regalia! Wow
I loved these yellows. These are called Total Recall
and they bloom twice a year.

Keep an eye on my bloggy - more iris photos will be blooming here very soon!

What a lovely post! I love the breezy and fresh feel of this piece, Nancy. I also remember you mentioning that Argyle Acres was for sale. Did they sell the place then?
