Before the Frost, Dallas Arboretum Cannas

Before the Frost by Nancy Medina
Palette Knife/Oil on Canvas
Dallas Arboretum Show

The Dallas Arboretum trees are turning gold and their cannas are putting on the final show of their season. Before the Frost is painted from a collection of red cannas near the little frog fountain. For those of you who came to Artscape this year, you may have seen these beautiful flowers near our tents. Although many of the flowers are done for the season, this is one of the most beautiful times to visit the gardens.

Love these big flowers (& the colors here in your painting!). I tried to grow some peach colored ones of these this year...sorta puny! I'm wondering whether they do very well up here in cold country?

Wow Nancy! I am so awed by your work. Do you ever give classes, or have you thought of doing some online classes?

Thank you Becky!

Roxanne, the peach are my favorite, they do very well down here in the heat but ours really need to be thinned for next year.

Dianne, thank you! I've done some private lessons and hope to do group classes in a few years. I appreciate that!

Thank you Ruth! Is it cold up there yet! : )

Love, love, love this painting! Cannas are NOT my favorite flower, but I think you may have just changed my mind! :-)

Thank you Angela, what a compliment! : ) I love that these flowers have such a variety of colors in them, pinks and reds and golds, and they are also messy and fun. (translates - lots of freedom on the canvas!)
