Good Fences, Rose Gardens

Good Fences by Nancy Medina

My last 2 years of College were completed while working full time as the editor of a community newspaper. The long drives to campus were spent listening to books on tape, back when a cassette deck was what most of us had in our cars. My favorite way to while away the time was to listen to Robert Frost reading his own poetry. The Mending Wall came to mind as I finished up this new picket fence rose painting this evening. Here is an excerpt:

Mending Wall
By Robert Frost
(Excerpt)

He moves in darkness as it seems to me~
Not of woods only and the shade of trees.
He will not go behind his father's saying,
And he likes having thought of it so well
He says again, "Good fences make good neighbors."

One more memory to share:
A beautiful day in Balboa Park
with Mindy, Dandy and Elvis

The picket fences,, we love picket fences. It seems that they have personalitys, or maybe a story to tell. Sometimes welcoming as you walk through, and sometimes lonly as you peer through an old deserted cemetery in the prarie- yet surrounded by a sometimes leaning, paint peeling picket fence. I don't know why I thought of that, because in this case- it is a beautiful picket fence surounded by love flowers,,,, someones garden,,,,a garden of hope. So beautiful.
And then my mind drifts to old broken down barbed wire fences,,,
oh the storys it could tell.
Your post made my mind get carried away, And who knows maybe it is a beautiful thing.
And by the way,,,, we love the poet too,,, beautiful words.

I love sharing your memories, Nancy. Listening to music (I've added a sweet playlist) just ups the memory ante for me. Beautiful passage and a gorgeous painting!

Thank you Tweedley, there is something about picket fences, you are so right little poet pug. They seem to call to other times....

Sherry I should add a playlist to my blog - what songs do you suggest? I am not talented when it comes to music at all. ; )
