Lone Star Sunflowers and Purple Hydrangeas

Lone Star Sunflowers, Pansies and Purple Hydrangeas
by Nancy Medina

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Lone Star Sunflowers is a work based on photographs taken last summer on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas. I reworked this painting from July 2009 this week and I'm much happier with the warmer yellows.

I was inspired to paint Lone Star when I spotted this large clay pot with a large Texas star on the side. It was originally full of pansies, but the stately old pot seemed to call out for some additional occupants. What says Texas summer better than giant yellow sunflowers?

I love the sunflower and purple kick you've been on lately. So powerful, uplifting and happy! Great medicine for the snow most people are getting this week...

As beautiful as the flowers are, it is that gorgeous pot that draws my eyes. No surprise that this is another exquisite painting, Nancy!
