Sunflowers in Repose

Sunflowers in Repose by Nancy Medina
Oil on Linen Board

Sunflowers in Repose is drying on the easel this evening, while the assistants lounge on various pillows around the studio. I set up a shoot of fresh sunflowers on white paper on my kitchen counter and fell in love with the way the cool paper contrasted with the warm petals of the sunflowers. I had originally added pears, but decided the paper alone was a good companion to these busy, bright flowers.

They are predicting real winter will come to Dallas this weekend. I am ready for it, even though the flowers will fade in the garden out back, finally and for good. Maybe it's time for them to rest, too.

Oh Nancy
The sunflowers are so beautiful.
Everything you paint is amazingly spectacular.
We love those sunflowers so much,
Ya know, maybe its time for everything and everyone to rest.
Enjoy the season

These are really lovely Nancy and I also loved your pansies! Summer is on it's way here so everything is waking up after a nice rest.

"Repose" and "putting them to rest"...shivers...feels like one is walking over my grave! That said, LOL, the painting is beautiful. I too like the color contrasts. When I scroll too fast before the whole blog has loaded, I get an amazing striped kaleidoscope of colors. Truly, beautiful. I find I want to snuggle with the studio assistants!

Tweedley, thank you so much, you are a wise little puggy wug. xoxoxox

Liz, you know I think I like pansies more and more as time passes, enjoy the summer we are passing along. We will take turns!

Autumn, I was thinking about Veteran's Day when I painted these, and my dad who fought in Korea who has since passed. I didn't want the post to be too sad, so I didn't admit what was really on my mind. You are so perceptive. thank you for your kind remarks and the assistants do always appreciate a good snuggle!
