Berry Challenging

Berries and Creme
12X12
Oil on Canvas

Berries on the Porch

Saundra Lane Galloway's summer painting challenge is up and running! Check out her blog to see some of the amazing entries so far, and a whole selection of images you can paint and submit for a chance to win a very cool prize.

Berries and Creme is my first attempt at painting strawberries, though I confess I have eaten my share. We grew strawberries on my parents' organic farm in East Texas when I was little. These plants love sandy soil and hay tucked around their roots. I remember standing in the furrows eating fresh, sweet berries, while the sand smushed up between my bare toes.

Thank you Saundra for such a great challenge. What fun!

Wonderful edges and loose build-up of strokes...From the thumbnail image I was expecting more of a detailed, labored work.
I like the economy of brushstrokes.
[that's my personal Berry Challenge]- I declare as I paint this crepe myrtle for the untold number of times.
~carry on~

I don't know what is prettier - the flowers or the berries! Yum on both! How funny - the word verification is "barie"!

Thanks for the tips on growing strawberries as well as for sharing this beautiful painting... they're just like anything else to paint, too, right? Funny thing... my husband just said to me "what do strawberries need - we've got to do something with this overgrown mess!" Paco & I ate ALL the crop this year!

Nancy- I am new to blogging, so I hope this works...LOVE your florals. Personally, I believe flowers are much more difficult to render than commonly believed...but yours are gracious, beautifully colored, and seem to jump off the canvas...I will follow your work. Also, I really got a chuckle from your "Nancy and the Fatties"...that IS class!

Nancy what a lovely touch you have with these florals, so yummy with paint textures. Your colors and lost and found edges are a thing to dream of. Good work!
