White Poppies

White Poppies

Oil on Canvas

White poppy contestant - Coronado Flower Show 2009

When I was 30 years old, my new year's resolution was to put down the charcoal pencils and start using color in my art. I enrolled in a private class and finished my first painting in about a week - a cluster of white poppies. Today, 17 years later, I still love poppies. I'm still learning how to paint poppies. Someday I hope to be a master painter. For now I am sure enjoying being a practitioner.

I'd say you're well on your way to mastery.
You know, I don't think I've ever seen a white poppy in real life. They really are beautiful. As is your painting!

Well if you're on your way to mastery Nancy, I still have diapers and training wheels.

I've never seen a white poppy either. They're beautiful, almost mystical.

Wow, Nancy, I love your poppies and I love the sunflowers in your previous post, what a talented lady you are, I doubt you have much to learn at all.

Love your poppies! The "real" poppy almost looks like crepe paper.

Hi Nancy, your poppies are devine, that is the word that comes to mind. I'm getting ready to paint some myself with a seascape...they are very alluring flowers.

My sweet little grandmother could toss seeds in dirt and the most amazing garden would flourish. One of her favorite flowers she loved to grow were red poppies. I did not know there was a white poppy, thank you for helping me remember something I had long ago forgotten. Your painting is beautiful!

Great composition in this painting Nancy, it's full of lots of interesting shapes. You've captured the delicacy of the poppies. Beautiful!

I agree that you are definitely on your way to mastery. You are much too hard on yourself. Look how beautiful all of these new paintings are!

A beautiful painting of a beautiful flower - even if none of us have ever seen a white poppy! Love it Nancy and you're well on your way to mastery.
