Artists I Admire: Karine Swenson

Artwork by Karine Swenson

Even if it is only by blogging that I have grown to know her, I am absolutely certain that Karine Swenson will be an artist who is recognized and lauded nationally someday. I hope she remembers me when that day comes.

This latest work by Karine is on her blog today, Growing Pains. Karine talks about discarding old notions and starting fresh in her art journey. She is an artist who is passionate about her calling, and you can see the momentum of her craft build over time in her blog entries.

Karine's work is reminiscent of the transcendent fields of color of the master painter, Rothko. If you have ever had an opportunity to see Rothko's fields of color in person, or sit for hours in the Rothko Chapel to absorb his visual message, it is an experience that transforms. I studied Rothko and the abstract expressionists in College and was delighted to see his work at the Tate in London, though Rothko never considered himself an abstract expressionist, and fought off such labels.

Someday I am certain we will see Karine's works hanging in museums. What a thrill to say that I own one of her originals!
