The Vineyard - Red Poppies

The Vineyard - Red Poppies
24X36
Palette Knife/Oil

I finished The Vineyard this morning after a couple of days of frenzied painting. Sometimes the muses are flowing and sometimes they snooze, and mine have been busy lately. Red poppies are one of my absolute favorite flowers, they are bright and just a bit unpredictable. A flower that feels perfectly upright in one stroke suddenly decides it would be perfectly happy upside down in another.

I had originally placed a cerulean blue sky in the background behind these blooms, but then decided some fluffy white clouds would be nice, then a couple of hills of lavender and grapes appeared out of nowhere. Sometimes these works paint themselves.

I've finished three poppy paintings in the last 3 days, and it's time to switch gears. Next, a snow scene with a beautiful old red house. I am so thankful for my talented photographer friends who let me paint from their work and who inspire me.

A scene that makes you wish you were sitting there with a glass of lemonade and a chicken salad sandwich. Bet you haven't heard that description before.

The backdrop is perfect, as is the sky. 3 paintings in 3 days? You sure have been a busy bee Nancy!

I'll continue to photograph and you continue bringing them to life, okay?
