Thistledown
Thistledown was painted from one of my favorite Texas weeds, the thistle. These stickery plants grow wild all along the highways in Texas. It always cheers me up to see purple flowers, I'm not quite sure why. Maybe because purple is a color that, if it were a person, someone might look at it and say, "My, that color has got some nerve!"

It's a rainy day in North Texas today. Sometimes when I don't want to break out the oil colors, it's nice to pull out my messy watercolor palette and use the bits and daubs of color that are leftover. I should probably wash that palette out, but sometimes I find the best colors are the ones that occur by accident.

Hi Nancy,
Last year you gave me a tile with a thistle on it... : )
I just wanted to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Because you had written about me, Renova checked out my website and wanted to buy a painting of mine. You are so sweet to mention me in your blog. Every artist needs an angel like you; thank goodness I have mine!
